About UJW
The Urban Journalism Workshop has been providing training for young journalists since 1986. George Curry (1947-2016), a long time reporter at the Chicago Tribune and St. Louis Times Dispatch, started the program in St. Louis. He continued the program in Washington, DC when he moved to the nation’s capital to become the editor of Emerge magazine. Since then, the Washington Association of Black Journalists has sponsored the program, which provides 8 weeks of training for high school students interested in pursuing careers in media and journalism. The program runs every Saturday from early March – early May.
